It finally happened yesterday. I was at the bank with my two children when a stranger saw that I have a boy and a girl, and said "Oh-so your family's perfect!" I said my usual "well, we're hoping for more" and left, because my children were restless, having time to ruminate over it later.
Yes, our family is perfect because that's where God has us right now.
And whose definition of perfect, anyway?
Or as my brother in law, who has 7 children put it, I guess we'll keep trying till we have an ugly one.
Or as my brother in law, who has 7 children put it, I guess we'll keep trying till we have an ugly one.
And as Dave said so eloquently "yeah-perfect start."
I remember a college friend saying how as Catholics we are called to be counter-cultural. It is so true, and its just plain sad to see how low society has sunk. It just hit me how widespread it is that people have such closed minded views of what is "normal" or "smart" or "usual" or "typical." People also have no boundaries, it seems, in sharing their opinions with perfect strangers about pregnancy or family planning. I wouldn't trade my big family growing up for anything, and I hope we can pass on similar crazy fun bonding experiences to our children!
I've also learned recently not to judge or jump to conclusions about families with no children. There could be any reason for it-and that's not our place to judge. Having a supernatural spirit about our own family helps see the beauty in each family, as God intended each family to be: unique. On the same token, if this is all God gives us, we hope to embrace it and give our children a wonderful experience growing up!
